Alabama Network of Children's Advocacy Centers, Inc.
A Message From Our President
The Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers (ANCAC) is an organization that is committed to the protection of Alabama’s children. The mission of ANCAC is to promote the multidisciplinary process in fostering an abuse-free society for Alabama’s children and to support the development of the Child Advocacy Center Model through public awareness, training and networking. The Alabama Network is currently comprised of 29 Centers that each provide a multidisciplinary team response to child maltreatment. Multidisciplinary team members include child protective services, law enforcement, medical, prosecution and mental health. At the heart of each team intervention is the forensic interviewer, who gathers information from the child victim. The Child Advocacy Model places the child’s “best interest” first. The team process alleviates the need for the investigating agencies to re-interview the child. Each center provides a child-friendly environment and a caring staff to assist the child victim and the non-offending family members from point of entry through to case closure.
In addition to the Multidisciplinary Team approach to investigation, CACs offer community-wide educational programs and provide training for professionals who work with children. Goals for the Network are to continue to train professionals across the state in the CAC Model, to continue following and speaking out on legislative issues involving children, to be proactive in initiating both prevention and intervention programs for abused and “at risk” children, and to maintain a strong public campaign for the protection of children.
Sincerely,
Jannah Bailey
Board President 2009-2010
